Have you ever stared blankly into your closet full of clothes and struggled to find something to wear? I know I have! And if you’re anything like me, you probably have more clothes that you never wear compared to the ones that you do. So, whilst it’s completely ok to have a bit of clothes obsession, it’s not ok when you have a cluttered wardrobe! So, it’s time to declutter your wardrobe and say goodbye to those old outfits, so you can make way for the new ones!
I get it, clearing out your work wardrobe can be a huge task, but it can also be very satisfying too as you begin to organize every area in your life. So, if you’re dreading the task of decluttering your wardrobe once and for all, then follow these top tips to help you tackle the task with ease:
Leave the past in the past
Do you have an old bridesmaid dress hanging around, sitting in your closet? I know I have about three! But what about that ugly sweater you bought for your work Christmas party? And I get the tendency to buy an outfit, wear it once to then shove it to the back of your wardrobe, never to be seen again.
But it’s these items that we will never wear again and are really pointless to keep around. So, if you’ve still got that Halloween costume from 2004 maybe it’s time to let it go!
Ask yourself one very important question:
Am I going to ever wear it? If you have to think a long time to get the answer, then it’s a no. If your first reaction isn’t to jump at the chance of wearing it, then it needs to go! But sometimes, there are these pieces that we do love but have nothing to wear it with. And that’s a shame because that top sits in the back of your wardrobe waiting to be worn. But, we won’t throw it away because we do plan on wearing it someday!
It’s not just about building a wardrobe, but it’s about building outfits. So, if you do love an item from your closet and have nothing to pair it with then start buying the items to build your desired outfit. And you can do this by adding new neutral items that look good with anything and will take your work wardrobe to the next level:
Out with the old, in with the new
I know how hard it can be to let go of some your most favorite pieces, and sometimes you don’t need to actually to declutter all of the old. After following the first tip, you may be left with some pieces that you really don’t want to get rid of. But they might need updating. This is the perfect way to bring in new items to spruce up your old items and make them look as good as new. And this can be easily done with a few wise accessories choices! You’ll be surprised what a few accessories can do for your outfit! So, take a look at these accessories and breathe life into some of your old pieces:
Transition with the season
Believe me when I tell you that I have loads and loads of clothes! I have a whole wardrobe for basically every season! Which can get a little cramped! I already have two wardrobes, and one is stuffed full of coats so I’m not left with much room at the end of the day. So, my trick is, instead of throwing out my seasonal wardrobes and having to buy more every year, I just alternate between the seasons. When it’s summertime, I pack my winter wardrobe in a suitcase and store it in the attic for when the cold air comes again!
So, if you’re wardrobe is currently packed with every season, there’s no wonder it’s feeling a little cluttered. So, change your wardrobe with the seasons, which even means you can make room for some new pieces that you’re dying to include! Check out favorites for the new season ahead:
Focus on the basics
You can never go wrong with your basic pieces, they will be your base for building any outfit. These are the pieces you shouldn’t declutter unless they’re a little old and need updating. As long as you have these basics you’ll be able to dress for any trend that comes your way! And it doesn’t matter if these items are black because you can always add color with your accessories.
If your basics are a little old and need updating, then check out these choices that will never let you down:
