How To Create A Productive Workspace

This time of year is busy, with deadlines coming in fast it’s important to create a positive and productive workspace. Something that encourages you to get stuff done. Believe it or not, what you have on and around your desk makes a huge difference. You could be distracted by the things you have on your desk. If you’ve been feeling like you need to step it up a notch (or three) before the end of the year. It’s time to get that workspace organized.

What you have on your desk needs to help you achieve everything you want, not hold you back from success. So, are you ready to get organized?

1. The right tools

To be distraction free when you’re at your workspace, you need to have the right tools to help you plan and execute the perfect day. The best way to plan your day is to get into the details and give yourself a strict list of things to do by the hour. You can use the Getting Stuff Done planner to achieve this, start by writing out your daily to-dos and goals on the left-hand side of the page, and then on the right-hand side go into all the other details that would ordinarily distract you from getting stuff done. For example, track how much water you’ve had, the meals you need to prepare, your expenses, exercise and shopping lists.

Another great way to stay on track while you’re at your desk is to use a weekly desk pad. This will help you have an overview of your busy week to hand, right next to you as you work. The Ultimate Week Plan is a desk pad designed to help you plan your perfect week, stay on top of everything and never forget an important to do or meeting again. 2. De-clutter your desk

Everything needs to have its place. The more items you have strewn across your desk, the less organized it will be. Get yourself some desk organizers, pen pots, folders, mini storage spots. While you’re sitting down at your desk, your eyes start to pull everything that’s in front of you. Your brain will process the things that are in front of you, leading you to feel distracted. The more full your desk is, the more your brain is processing besides the work you’re doing.

Eliminate distractions and get your desk under control with folders, pen pots, and put everything in its place.

3. Go Green

Plants have so many benefits that if you’ve been feeling unproductive or sluggish, it might be that you need to add a few plants to see a huge difference in the way you work. They help to reduce fatigue, boost immune systems, and boost moods. Reduce the levels of certain pollutants, meaning they’re perfect for detoxing your office, especially if it’s in the middle of a city.

The most important benefits of going green in your office are that plants can relax you and improve your concentration, this will help you overcome stress and be more productive. You’ll see an instant boost in your work mood once you add some plants to your office space.

4. Stay inspired

Everyone has a week or two where they feel a bit uninspired. It’s normal. Boost the inspiration by creating a visual space on your workspace that inspires you to do your best work. No matter what kind of workspace you have, or what your career is, try to find images or sources of inspiration that motivate you to do your best work. This could be photos of your friends and family or a vision board of the work you want to do and the life you want to lead.

Make your goals visual and create a mini vision board and you’ll feel as though you have something tangible to work towards. You can change this up as your vision changes to keep yourself on track.

5. Add an energizing scent

While you might think of candles and diffusers as counter-productive, scents of orange and lemon are proven to be energizing and motivating. If you want to be more productive, try lighting a candle for one hour, adding a diffuser to your desk, or buying an essential oil and breathing in a few drops of the scent.

If you want to go a step further, add a slice of fresh lemon to hot water and breathe deeply. Lemon often helps when you feel anxious or run down, and drinking hot water with lemon will help boost your immune system and improve circulation – making you more productive at work.

6. Set up your desk correctly

To work smarter, you first need to make sure your desk is set up correctly. Your posture affects your mood, your body, and your productivity. Make sure your hips are as far back as they can go in the chair, your knees are equal to your hips and your feet are flat on the floor. You can also add a cushion to your chair to ensure your upper and lower back is supported, correct posture will help you be more productive because you’ll be comfortable, sitting up straight, and feel powerful and positive.

You should also make sure you take a stretch break every thirty minutes, and after one hour take a break or change tasks for at least 5-10 minutes. When your desk is set up correctly, you’ll feel so much more focused and on top of everything.
